Andrew studied Law at Northumbria University, graduating in 1998 and qualifying as a Solicitor in 2000.

Since qualifying as a Solicitor, he has undertaken a wide range of work including commercial and residential property, wills and probate, trusts, family law, business law, civil claims and business lease extensions.

He now spends much of his time dealing with –

Commercial transactions including Sale and Purchase of interests in Hospitality Businesses such as Pubs, Hotels, and Restaurants, Commercial Leases of Garages and major office complexes, acting for developers in the purchase and subsequent sale of plots on residential developments and distressed property transactions.

Trusts  including protecting assets for the family to avoid disappointment in the case of a widowed parent remarrying and protecting assets from the impact of Long-Term Care Fees.

Court of Protection Applications, Wills and affairs of the elderly

In 2019 Andrew was awarded an LLM in Advanced Legal Practice by Northumbria University after producing an in-depth study into claims by adult children against the estates of their parents where little or no provision had been made for them and in Statutory Will applications where a parent had lost capacity and had made little or no provision for their adult child on their death.  

Aside from his role as a Solicitor, Andrew was an Associate Lecturer at Northumbria University teaching on various land and property law modules between 2017 and 2020; and was the Independent Person appointed to the County Durham & Darlington Fire Authority where he reviewed complaints made against the Fire Authority members by reference to their Code of Conduct between 2019 and 2021.

In May 2020 Andrew was appointed a Deputy District Judge on the North East Circuit and a Fee Paid Judge of the First Tier Tribunal assigned to the Social Entitlement Chamber.

Andrew is the President of the Sunderland Law Society.

Martin studied at University of Lincolnshire & Humberside, graduating in 1997 and qualified as a solicitor in 2003.

Since qualifying as a solicitor, he has undertaken a variety of property work, including, commercial and residential property, commercial law, Landlord & Tenant matters, including commercial leases, drafting heads of terms, rent deposit deeds and Liquor Licence applications for pubs.

Martin regularly acts in commercial property sales and acquisitions for property investment clients and has also acted in numerous commercial asset sales and purchases, of public houses, petrol filling stations, post offices and other businesses. He also acts for banks both in taking security over commercial purchases and acting for the bank, providing separate representation, recent work includes: –

  • sale and purchase of multi-let investment properties;
  • advising on a commercial re-mortgage of a large industrial estate;
  • disposal and purchase of petrol filling stations;
  • providing property support on corporate share purchase and sales.

Outside of work, he can be found at the weekend driving his children to local football and rugby matches all over the North-East.

Andi joined Mortons in the Summer of 2018 as a paralegal following a work placement while studying Law at University. He worked within the Private Client department dealing with Wills, Asset Protection Trusts and Lasting Powers of Attorney. Andi graduated in June 2019 with a Masters Degree in Law (incorporating the Legal Practice Course) from Northumbria University and commenced his training contract with us in the same month. He qualified as a solicitor in July 2021.

Following a secondment to Blackadders LLP corporate team, Andi is based within our Corporate/ Commercial Property department. He has gained a range of experience in Corporate/Commercial Property Law assisting in such matters as:-

  • Share sales and purchase of various companies (including a £1 million transaction)
  • Sales and purchases of various Commercial Properties
  • Drafting and execution of Commercial Leases and Licences
  • Drafting of commercial contracts, terms of business and reporting on previously drafted docs to ensure they work as desired
  • Capital reduction demergers
  • Incorporation of various Companies with differing objects/ articles of association
  • Drafting and reporting on shareholders agreements
  • Loan agreements

Outside of work Andi is a passionate Sunderland fan and keen CrossFit competitor.
